I love artists, because I'm a wordsmith and they say things I
can never say. Here are two of my favorite paintings about work,
both by Caillebotte:

My mother was full of aphorisms. I grew up with 'All work has
dignity,' and 'It doesn't matter what you do. If you're a [floor
scraper], be the best one you can be.'
Coming from an intellectual family, I was always fascinated to
see people work with their ...

Following are a series of questions I needed to ask myself and
find answers to over the course of my life before finally
deciding to go for it. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if any of
these looked familiar to you. You'll notice that many of the
questions and my proposed solutions are interrelated.
1. What am I really afraid of?
Addressing this issue right here is worthy of an article all by
itself! You may have heard somewhere that FEAR really stands for
False Evidence Appearing Real. ...

As a stay-at-home mom, I have had the distinct privilege of
being involved in several 'mom-lifestyle' discussions. Most
focus on the roll of mothers in society today. Generally there
are two camps. One says that a mother should stay at home, be
there for her family exclusively, and be willing to sacrifice
her very life and happiness for the happiness of the family. The
second group says no, a mother should be able to pursue her own
career, and although the family may suffer some, her dreams ...

My wife, Brenda and I were at some friends house one night to play some dominoes. At one point during the evening, we started talking about dreams and particularly, being naked in dreams. I mentioned a recent dream where I had been naked and very openly so. Brenda mentioned that she had rarely if ever had a dream being naked.
Growing up, she was raised in a fairly strict family and was not able to express herself like she would have preferred. She once got in trouble at a young age for saying ...

"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy
in its own way."
This is one of the most famous opening lines ever written. The
author is a man consumed by horror and fascination with families
and family life, a man who had 12 children and an intense
relationship with his much younger wife, and whose own parents
and older brother died when he was quite young.
The book is "Anna Karenina". The author is Leo Tolstoy.
Many of Tolstoy's novels concern families and family life
issues. ...

Five points to consider when you want to fit fitness into a
hectic life
When I tell people what I do for a living, many will tell me
they wish they had the time to exercise, but just can't seem to
fit it in. This is one of the biggest excuses people give for
not making exercise a part of their life. However, we all have
time for the things we feel are important enough. Many people
actually have more time than they think. Research now supports
breaking increased activity into 10-minute blocks, ...

When I was just a young lad of 29 or so I was a married "career
military man" and came down on orders to go to Vietnam, an
assignment to a combat zone which meant my wife and I would be
separated. I had been married only 4 years at this time and
still qualified as an idealistic, as well as naive, young
married man. So'..I determined that I would abstain from sex for
the time I was gone, being totally faithful to my wife.
By the time I had been in Vietnam for 6 months several things
had ...

Several years ago, Marilyn M. couldn't even spell fibromyalgia.
Now she can spell it backwards, sideways and every other
way...along with the term 'chronic fatigue'. Both became a
devastating way of life for her.
Hardly a moment passed without her being aware of the
debilitating advance of the disease. Even the smallest
activities, such as holding a pen to write, became impossible
for her.
Doctors were not encouraging. They offered prescriptions to
relieve the constant pain, muscle spasms, ...

We have all heard the many benefits of working at home ' set
your own hours, spend more time with your family, avoid the
commute, etc. And many people (including myself!) have actually
reaped these benefits. But one thing we aren't told is that for
some of us, one unfortunate side effect of being at home all day
is weight gain.
Now I know that a lot of the work-at-home crowd is really only
at home in an office part of the time. Salespeople are always
out on sales calls, and well, if you run a ...
